On the basis of his fifty-year experience as a research worker of one of the Academy’s research establishments, the author makes an analysis of this institution’s evolution to date in context of various circumstances resulting both from policy towards Academia and decisions of its authorities. He ponders over the reasons and results of subsequent changes, and suggests to utilize those experiences now on the threshold of another reform of the institution, whose achievements co-create to a large extent the international position of Poland.
